Dear Families,
A last check in before we get the school year underway. It has been delightful to see so many of you at the Pizza and Play gatherings. Thanks to Alison Nurok and Brea Murphy for set-up and pizza gathering.
ACSD Teacher of the Year Award! - Christina Wadsworth was honored as the ACSD 2023 Elementary Teacher of the Year at the district opening event this past Wednesday! She was nominated by Weybridge families and colleagues. Christina asked to speak at the event and below are some of her words:
I am grateful to have worked for the past 15 years with such an intellectually rigorous, civil, and collaborative group of colleagues at Weybridge school. We studied together, listened carefully, supported each other, and disagreed respectfully. Collegiality matters.
I am grateful to Linda Smith, whose classroom and artistic support made us an effective team.
Finally, and most importantly–indeed, why we are all here–I am grateful to the students. Their provocative ideas inspired me to read and study widely and deeply. Their questions, concerns, and comments guided what we read, discussed, and practiced in class. Student thoughts matter.
In Linda Smith’s words, “Christina worked tirelessly to protect [the students’] rights, respect their dignity, and celebrate the wonderful learners that they are.” As the ACSD awardee she will be put forward for the Vermont Teacher of the Year Award.
“Spruce up” afternoon, Sunday, 8/27, 1:00-3:00 pm - Please come and help weed flower beds (they are jungle-like after all the rain), open up the trail to the outdoor classroom behind the school, clean the entranceways, hose down rainboots and sleds, etc., redistribute some of the wood chips, replace the basketball nets, etc. Children are welcome and encouraged to help with the work. We have a hose, one wheelbarrow and some trowels. Please bring garden tools, clippers, weed whackers, etc.
Sneakers for P.E., rain gear and an extra set of clothes - Please be sure your child wears or brings sneakers on P.E. days - Tuesdays and Fridays. If it’s rainy or there’s rain in the forecast, please be sure they have their rain gear - boots, pants, rain jacket. And finally, please have them pack an extra set of clothes including underwear and socks to keep at school. We do have some extra shoes, clothes and gear at the school in case someone is caught short, but it works best if each student is prepared.
Bus routes have been published and can be found here and below. The times may be adjusted once routines have set in and it becomes clear who is riding the bus and who is not.
LOTS of paperwork will be coming home the first week of school. Please get it back to us as quickly as possible.
Looking forward to the first day! Please call if you have any questions.
Best, Christina
